paris: jour deux

well...we all woke up late, and consequently missed breakfast. so much for likun's "we must wake up early to go for breakfast". maybe food isn't that important to me after all. =)

after we FINALLY got out of bed, we headed for st-michel...to see the notre dame cathedral. it was really pretty...with the river, and the quaint shops along the road. and it was really sunny - which made it even better for sightseeing (i got the chance to wear my sunglasses!). there were loads of people there though - we only realized later on that it was good friday. i was reminded of esmerelda and "god help the outcasts" the moment i walked in. muffy will know what i mean. =)

notre dame...as seen from across the river

ash and i spent ages inside...taking photos like maniacs - again. the other 4 got sick of us, and decided to go walking around. hahaha. =) it's not everyday you get a chance to be in such a famous cathedral! but i must say duomo is a nicer cathedral, especially the architecture. simply amazing. then again, it's (apparently) the third largest church in the world.

we also went for crepes in creperie des arts, as recommended by hua's sister. i can't remember what i ordered, but it was GOOD. the interior of the place was also really nice - kind of egyptian style, with cool seating areas. but i must say we would have never ventured down that road if not for the recommendation from hua's sister. =)

the greedy pigs..with their yummylicious crepes =)

we had dinner in the same area...after dawdling and taking ages to decide, we finally chose this restaurant which looked like it was serving good food. and they made us wait for the table...fair enough. this was then followed by another loooong wait to order. the waiter did swing by our table a minute after we sat down, but we weren't ready at the time. and he just blatantly ignored us after that. asshole. this chinese girl on the opposite table then told me that the restaurant treated them like crap the entire time they were there, and advised us to get the hell out. and we did. the best thing was..i think they didn't even flinch. great sevice. NOT. anyway, we then went to this other restaurant - which had considerably FRIENDLIER people. but to be quite honest, i think the food in the first place would have been better. but no way.

after that, our monkey-turned-tour-guide brought us to place de la concorde - where we were able to see all the parisan landmarks - arc de triomphe, champs elysees, eiffel tower...very nice. we also got to see the "epileptic lights" on eiffel tower. i must say, when we were on the tower the night before, with the lights - it felt like i was in a nightclub. hahahaha. there was also this beautiful fountain there...wonderful. i also had an "interesting" experience there. ramz told me that it's one of the typical french habits. hahaha. quite pathetic.

place de la concorde, with eiffel tower in the background (note the number of lanes in the road! scary...)

one of my favourite sohpoh photos..i love the lights!

we also walked to louvre, to see it by night. it was quite a long walk, but it was worth it! (i seem to be saying this a lot..haha). plus, there was a full moon that night. =)

louvre...by night

i also stayed up that night, reading "the da vinci code" (the only advantage of lugging ramz's stuff to paris, haha). i started it at 2am...thinking it would be interesting to just read the first few chapters. (i had to do something while waiting for my "plug converter" to come back down) well, i ended up skimming through the entire book - simply because i couldn't put it down, and i doubt i'd have been able to sleep without finding out how it ended. =) so i slept at 7am. i must say it's a fascinating book...i have to read it properly sometime.
