an update. and please note that it's only the START of the weekend.
oh my god. the fire alarm actually hasn't been set off for the past THREE nights!! it's a miracle. i can only hope that the peaceful bliss continues...*crosses fingers*
but, after the alarm was set off FIVE nights in a row, i decided that i had already had more than enough...so i crashed ramona's place for two nights (when incidentally, the alarm didn't actually go off). but it was just SO nice to not worry about whether the alarm was going to go off. =)
i'm wondering if they've caught the asshole behind it, or if this person is just laying low for the moment. it's become quite a big issue, and ucl has actually offered £500 for any information which leading to the arsonist. speaking of money, i got FINED. yes. £25!!! coz i didn't leave my room during the fire alarm...i am fucking pissed off. people have suggested that i should just refuse to pay, but i can't do that - they're just going to add it on to my invoice, which is actually really smart of them (unfortunately). hoo-ray. and i know many people share my views...coz LOADS of people got fined. apparently it's a criminal offense to not evacuate the building during a fire alarm. i HATE this asshole, whoever he/she is. oh, and the firemen also threatened to close down schafer if the false alarms continued...meaning we would all be evicted. i'm just so glad it's stopped (for now). but as mary said, this isn't the end of it till the arsonist is actually caught.
on a more sombre note: the last time the alarm was set off, there was actually a fire quite near to schafer. anyway, what happened was that the firemen at euston road had to come to schafer, and couldn't go to the place which was actually on fire - even though they knew that ours was definitely a false alarm. so, firemen from another station (which was further away) went there instead. and, here's the really sad part...two firemen actually died trying to save someone. we obviously don't know what might have happened, but it is possible that no one would have loss their lives if the firemen who came to schafer were actually at the scene - coz they would have been able to get there sooner, and the fire may not have been as bad then. i don't know.
as i said, it's just not a silly prank anymore.
but enough about fire alarms. i have had enough of them to last me a lifetime, thank you very much.
i've just started looking for a place to stay next year, when i'll probably be sharing with jeff and hui li. we went to see this place yesterday...which is quite nice, reasonably priced, and most importantly - CLOSE to ucl. =) this is mainly because i will never make it to any lectures if i stay too far away. i already skip so many lectures as it is, so can you imagine what would happen if i stayed 20 minutes away??? i do think it's a pain trying to look for accommodation though. it's something i have never had to deal with before...and it's just so "mafan". can't ucl just give international students accomodation in halls for the duration of our course? sighhhhh.
shaz: oh shut up. YOU didn't update for AGES!!! wheras my last update was on wednesday. by the way, that was probably why the tagboard wouldn't let you post anything....haha. =)
anita: are you going to post a message every friday asking me to update? it's not like i don't talk to you, woman. and what? it keeps your sanity intact? interesting...=)
muffy: hyponoctulemea?? hahahahahahaha. and the picture is NOT psychotic.
wince: i agree with yong- maybe we should hire you to stand guard at the fire alarms...*grins* apparently some students have been doing "stuff" (we don't know what), and that schafer has being doing "stuff" as well (they won't tell us what, which is fair enough). so i can only hope....
