system error.

the very words you NEVER want to see on the lcd screen of your camera.
i was in chinatown, happily taking photos of the chinese new year celebrations...then suddenly..."system error". wtF.

and the worst thing is that the lens can't revert to its original position - i'm not exactly sure how to describe it, but basically, the lens is sticking out. the good thing is that it's definitely not jammed, as the lens swivels in and out when i switch the dial. and all my photos are still on my memory card. phew. plus - i can even transfer photos to my computer!

i'm going to call nikon tomorrow - that's what the manual says we're supposed to do when it ever happens. apparently it's something to do with the internal circuitry of the camera. and i'm pretty sure my camera (actually, dad's camera) will be making it's way to a nikon service office. it had better be repaired SOON. malaysian night is on the 26th...and if i don't have my camera then...arrgh! then again, i could just borrow a camera from the ic people.

this is SO annoying! i wonder which is worse...my screwed-up camera (which is now at home) which started giving me red-lined photos, or this. i guess i'll only find out after i get the camera repaired (which will hopefully happen!) *crosses fingers*

on a brighter note...chinese new year has been quite fun this year. it sure beats celebrating in acton "boring" burnell. had dinner with hua on new year's eve in this noodle place in charlotte street, and walked back at 12am. it's quite scary!! then, we had a steamboat dinner in keong wee's party apartment (haha) - me, hua, keong wee, wen yen, wince, jeff and quah.

i think this chinese new year has been quite complete. there's been dinners (duh), mahjong, blackjack, "tai ti", the STUPID in-between game, as suggested by justin, gambling, cookies, chinese new year music (supplied by yours truly), and even fire crackers!! [note: NO alcohol!! at least, not for me...but some people drank. haha] it was amazing to see fire crackers, especially since i haven't seen them since....a looooong time ago. i actually think that i see more chinese-new-yeary stuff in london compared to back home...i never see fireworks and firecrackers at home! i did get a bit of a scare when the one of the fireworks being set off went a bit mad, and went in the wrong direction (towards the crowd!!) - there's just this sense of fear that it'll fly into your face and explode there. yikes. oh, and justin, samuel, shuen and wei shen were here for the weekend. not forgetting sato sato. haha. i'll post the pictures...errm, after i post the opium pictures. =)

on an entirely different matter: after an anti-spyware/adware/virus scanning blitz i had last friday, my computer is now fast again! =) it was being a pain on thursday and friday...and i was getting really fed up. plus, the lop.com search toolbar, which was always annoying, decided to become even more annoying. it usually appeared at the bottom of my screen, but i could close it. but on friday, it just stayed there, blocking 1/10 of my screen. after swearing and cursing lop.com for their mere exixtance, i then set about looking for a way to get rid of the bloody toolbar. and i managed to do it - although i had to actually visit their website (i tried to avoid it, but there was no other way...even ad-aware couldn't get rid of it). the only thing i'm wondering about is why i didn't get rid of it earlier. hmmm. but the important thing is that it is gone! and it will hopefully not come back. note to self: install spyware blaster the moment you connect a new computer to the internet. though i do wonder about the effectiveness of these programmes sometimes...(coz ad-aware couldn't get rid of it). but i should probably thank yong for asking me to install spyware blaster last christmas. =) [i'm sure some of you are probably thinking...just use firefox, coz ie sucks...right?] haha.

and i've also reverted to my old "never-on-time" habits. again. oh well.

it has been a fun 5 days...but i now have to get down to some serious studying. no more wandering around or meeting up with people until the 21st. 5pm.
[7 more days, and TOO much work]
shiiiiiiiit. i think i'm screwed.
